1080 Cable
1080 Cable is an intelligent workout device that delivers precise resistance training for demanding athletes. It provides a smooth and controllable resistance and real-time feedback of performance metrics, which allows for efficient training in a wide variety of exercises.
Our task was to design the housing and exterior elements of the 1080 Cable in a way that it would communicate the design heritage of the brand. The device needed to be compact and portable as well as easy to adjust and understand. It is mainly installed in gym environments and needs to withstand rough usage.
By starting from a cylinder-shaped housing we could minimize the volume around the motor. By then adding dodecagonal edges to the shape, as well as the rubber side bumpers, we increased its robustness. The handlebar allows for easy height and angle adjustments and at the same time protects the display from impacts.
The training device 1080 Cable impresses with its robustness, compact design and an optimised user experience during strength training.
Design process
The 1080 Cable is a highly flexible device that provides lots of exercise possibilities, and the way that the user can change the position and angle of the device needed to be intuitive and easy. We explored a wide array of shapes for the adjustment handle and the positioning of the release mechanism, as well as the main shape of the housing. We wanted the design to express both the device's sturdiness as well as the main functions of the product. After evaluating and iterating hand sketches we could refine the design in our CAD software and describe details even better. In the end we delivered renderings and CAD-drawings for the housing.
